Dublin Hammers Trip - Tottenham Hotspur - Saturday 3rd May 2014

West Ham 2 vs Tottenham 0

21 Dublin hammers gathered early on the Saturday of the game in our usual watering hole in the Ryanair terminal. Everyone was in great spirits... especially jimmy Conway who looked as though he had not gone home the night before!. Anyway the flight departed more or less on time which was a help given the 12.45 kick off!

A 16 seater bus and a 7 seater cab picked us up in stanstead airport. We headed straight to the premier inn central in Romford... a new destination for us... just time to throw the bags into the reception and get back on the bus to head to Upton Park. I was in the 7 seater, we had to wait on Gerry O’Keefe who was flying in from Zurich. Great to see him again. Incidentally we now have a Zurich Gerry... a Boston Gerry... a Berlin Josh... and a Robert from space amongst our members.

Anyway, we reached Upton Park with about a half hour to spare which meant most people headed into the ground. Onto the game apart from a sitter missed by Adebayor, the yids did not show up. Even though they had Kabul sent off, I don't think it made much difference. To beat that mob 3 times in one season is so sweet. We actually played some nice football... take note Gerry Murtagh.

Match over and not many stayed back for the teams lap of honour. Now it was time to party. Most of us headed to M&Ms on the Barking Road after the game. It was great to catch up with our old mate Mick Brennen. Must mention my friend Dennis Hedtfeld, a German friend whom I met in Dublin last year and has now become a great friend. Using my sensible head, I got the lads to leave M&Ms at 5pm as we still had to check into our hotel. Back in romford we checked in and back out to Yeats pub for food drink and 3 points for Man City.

Here Fran Ryan done a draw for the first ever Dublin hammers Dance-off which was to take place later that night. Back to the hotel, a shower and change and back to Yeats to round off the night. Everyone was in great form with yours truly the red hot fav to win the dance off. It was at this point things started to go pear shaped... Jim Conway, who had been missing since the match ended showed up plastered and was picked by Fran to judge the dance off. I drew Pat, with all due respect to Pat, a complete mis-match. Not to our Jim... he picked Pat, who went on to win the dance off!

Big thanks to Dave Spicer and Danny Brendan, cockney mates of mine who showed up, thanks lads! We were the last out off the boozer, a brill night had by all.

Next day and it was time for or usual cultural tour! We had the pleasure of walking down Brick Lane, its like swimming against the tide. We all met up in the George pub in Liverpool St. for more pints, then me and Eddie headed to Tescos for the beer and Tom Jones to the KFC for 2 buckets off Chicken. The bus arrived on time with all our bags and it was time to head to Gatwick.

The usual singsong ensued. It was when we arrived in Gatwick that the only sour note off the trip happened. Gary had lost his passport and was not allowed on the flight home which was a sickener. Anyway big thanks to Aer Lingus who let Gary on a flight without his passport the next day. A big thanks to Tom Jones our Travel Sec. who did a geat job organising the trip and to all the Dublin Hhammers who made the trip, as usual you were great ambassadors for the club!

Yours in sport Liam McDonagh, Sec. Dublin Hammers.

PS. Please do your best to make the AGM on Monday 19th may the most important meeting of the year.

Special thanks to Liam McDonagh for the report.
